Planning A Party

Party Planning Checklist: What Not To Forget

The party planning stage can be daunting, but whatever type of party you have holding, remember that there a few areas that must be covered no matter what type of party is being held. The information below will help out anyone who has found themselves in the role of party planner, and if you follow the advice then it should lead to a successful party, whatever the occasion.

So, Where's the Party???

The first thing to decide upon at the beginning of the party planning stage is the location. Are you going to hold the party in your own house, where you will have to expect a certain number of breakages and wine stains, or will you be hiring out a place instead? The latter is clearly the more expensive option, but then you do not want to end up with your house getting destroyed, and sometimes it is simply not an option to play the host in your own home. For office parties, many companies simply hold the party in the actual office and just throw a few decorations up, which can still work quite well.

The next most important thing to consider is the food and the drink. Are you going to be preparing all of the food yourself, or are you going to hire out a professional caterer to sort it out for you? One cheap option would be to have a pot-luck meal whereby all the guests are asked to bring one dish or dessert so that there is enough food for all. You may also want some snacks to be floating around during the party instead of, or as well as, a meal, and it is possible to buy cheap and tasty hot and cold snacks at any supermarket these days.

You will also have to decide when to hold the party. If you throw it on a weekend then people may already have plans, but if you throw it on a weekday then most people will have to work the next day. The key is to let people know about it early, so that they won't be able to come up with any last-minute excuses.

Depending on the type of party, you may want a certain dress code to be worn. For example, you may want only formal wear, or you could be planning a fancy dress party. The essential thing to remember is that you make sure everyone knows about this, as it can be very embarrassing to turn up over or under dressed at any party.

But perhaps one of the most important things to remember when party planning is how much you can afford to do. If you want to throw an extravagant party then you have to be realistic about the costs from the beginning. Remember when planning a party there are certainly ways to reduce costs, but the important thing is not to kid yourself about what you are capable of as you could end up getting into a bit of a mess otherwise.
